Elon Musk FINALLY UNVEILS Next-Gen Superheavy Booster!

At its Starbase facility in South Texas, SpaceX has just moved Booster 9, the most recent version of its Starship Super Heavy vehicle, out to the launch pad in preparation for a planned test flight.

Two images that show the very end of the procedure were shared on Twitter by SpaceX on Friday (July 21).

But, what’s special with this next generation superheavy booster? Let’s find out in today’s episode!

At its Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas, SpaceX has posted a breathtaking image of its cutting-edge Super Heavy launcher against a starry night sky. The spacecraft will be launched into orbit using 33 Raptor engines on this cutting-edge rocket.

The most powerful rocket on Earth is the Super Heavy booster, which is an astounding 395 feet (120 meters) tall. It surpasses NASA’s Space flight System (SLS), which attained 8.8 million pounds of thrust during its initial flight eight months ago, with an amazing 17 million pounds of thrust. An uncrewed Orion spacecraft was launched by SLS on that mission, designated as Artemis I, to orbit the moon.

Before its scheduled launch, the current Super Heavy, known as Booster 9, will soon go through extensive ground-based testing. The rocket suffered catastrophic problems immediately after takeoff during its initial attempt in April, which was unsuccessful. The Super Heavy was destroyed mid-air as a result of mission operators being compelled to start a self-destruct command. Despite the fact that the flight did not go as planned, SpaceX nonetheless collected useful information to improve the design for subsequent launches.

SpaceX intends to deploy the Super Heavy for crewed and cargo flights to the moon and Mars after a successful testing phase. As part of the eagerly awaited Artemis III mission in 2025, the company has already signed a deal with NASA to use a modified version of the Starship spaceship with the goal of sending the first woman and person of color to the lunar surface.

Depending on regulatory certification, the Super Heavy’s second test flight is planned to happen in the upcoming months. Environmental organizations, worried about the potential environmental impact of the Boca Chica launches, are exerting pressure on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Some organizations have gone as far as to file legal challenges against the FAA, claiming that the agency ignored the potential harm these launches could create.

The static fire test campaign for Booster 9 might begin as early as next week. Early on July 18th, the vehicle was transferred from the Mega Bay to the “Rocket Garden” of the Starbase.

On Thursday, the vehicle travelled down Highway 4, giving a better view of the improvements, which include a set of cylindrical metal tanks erected where the smaller set of aerodynamic chines once stood. All of the chines on Booster 9 now appear to be the same size because these have been concealed.

It is unknown what these tanks are for, however Elon had mentioned on a recent Twitter Spaces that they might be for additional consumable storage for the booster or storage of purging gas for the engine bay to prevent fires.
