When Elon Musk declared on Twitter that he was starting a tunnel construction company, many people thought he was kidding. But in the months that followed, he’s made it very clear that he isn’t. His goal for this company is to revolutionize the tunneling industry, as he believes the industry has deteriorated and could benefit from the kind of disruption he brought to aerospace. The Boring Company’s recent development involves opening the first of around 55 stations planned to be constructed as part of a tunnel network beneath Las Vegas, which will see passengers carried across the city in a fleet of Tesla vehicles. The newly opened station, situated at the Resorts World Las Vegas hotel complex, is an extension of The Boring Company’s existing three-stop tunnel system right under the Las Vegas Convention Center, which opened in April 2021.
