Elon Musk Just CONFIRMED An Ambitious MOVE During Starship’s First Orbital!
On 27 May, NASA will launch people into space from U.S. soil for the first time since 2011, when the space shuttle Atlantis roared aloft on its final voyage. This time the astronauts will not be flying on a NASA rocket, but aboard the Dragon 2 capsule on top of the Falcon 9 rocket. Why was SpaceX created?
SpaceX is an American spacecraft manufacturing company founded in 2002 by Elon Musk. Its goal was to reduce space transportation costs to enable the colonization of Mars. SpaceX has done wonders in the world of science and technology. The Hawthorne-based company also made noteworthy progress on new endeavors like its Star link global broadband system and its huge Starship spacecraft. “History is going to bifurcate in two directions. One path is we stay on Earth forever, and then there will be some eventual extinction event,” Musk said in 2016. “The alternative is to become a spacefaring civilization and a multi-planet species, which I hope you would agree is the right way to go.” Analysts see both advantages and risks in the company’s rising power.
No doubt, it has lowered the cost of spaceflight through innovations such as reusable stages and fairings, saving NASA money. Being massive in size, Starship could cheaply put large telescopes in orbit and do heavy science experiments on moons and planets.
What is Musk’s Starship?
Starship is a fully reusable transport system capable of carrying up to 100 people into space. The starship is designed to take NASA astronauts to the moon. But, Elon Musk has bigger dreams: he wants to use it to settle humans on Mars. The SpaceX founder has often talked about his dream of building cities on Mars. He thinks that more and more people would wish to make settlements on Mars. “Starship would change the way that we can do solar system exploration,” exclaimed Ali Bramsen, a planetary scientist from Purdue University. “Planetary science will just explode”, he added.
Starship was built at a Texas site dubbed “Star base”. It consists of a massive spaceship on top of an enormous booster, known as Super Heavy. Starship is an epitome of modern technology as it can safely land back on Earth to be reused, reducing costs. The entire vehicle will be capable of lifting 100 metric tons (220,000 pounds) of cargo and people into space on continuous budget-friendly missions.
The volume of usable space within Starship is 1,000 cubic meters. It is big enough to fit a gigantic tower inside. Amazing!! Isn’t it? It is indeed a masterpiece created by human hands. One can easily boast that Starship is an important part of future growth plans for SpaceX. As mentioned earlier the vehicle holds the capacity to facilitate human spaceflight to the moon and Mars.
Not only this but it could also be used to deploy large numbers of satellites and bring enormous volumes of cargo into space. One of the questions that come up a lot is why SpaceX used stainless steel as Starship’s primary build material, as its weight-to-strength ratio leaves a lot to be expected.
