SpaceX Big New Update On Starship Flight 4: Trajectory & Countdown!
With every passing second, we get a little closer to Starship Flight 4, which is expected to be the first full landing mission in the rocket industry. Based on the strides of Flight 3, the basic process of Flight 4 may not be too different. But of course, there will still be a few changes we need to keep in mind. So, as we often did before every flight, today we will spend an episode analyzing the entire Flight 4 process so you can more easily follow the upcoming flight. If you’re ready, let’s get started.
SpaceX Big New Update On Starship Flight 4: Trajectory & Countdown!
To prepare for Flight 4, SpaceX has been buzzing with excitement throughout May at Starbase. They’ve been diligently updating the process for this upcoming flight.
As it stands, SpaceX has set the launch date for June 5. According to road closure notices from Cameron County and the Marine Safety Information Bulletin of the US Coast Guard, the entire process is expected to unfold in the morning, spanning 14 hours from 12 a.m. to 2 p.m. Additionally, there are two backup dates scheduled for June 6 and 7, though these are likely just contingency plans, with June 5 being the primary target.
Now that the timing is established, let’s delve into what will transpire during this flight. To streamline your understanding, I’ll break down the process into two phases: pre-flight and in-flight.

Similar to Flight 3, around T-1:15:00, the SpaceX Flight Director will poll and verify the start of fuel loading. If all goes well, fuel loading will commence approximately 26 minutes later, around T-00:49:00. Interestingly, this time the fuel loading sequence will begin in Ship and then proceed to Booster, a slight deviation from the order observed in Flight 3. Moreover, methane fuel will be loaded first, followed by LOX for both stages, which contrasts with the order in Flight 3. The rationale behind this change remains unclear, prompting speculation and discussion in the comment section.
