Half a year has passed, and we’ve already witnessed two thrilling Starship flights. With such remarkable progress, the second half of 2024 promises to be nothing short of explosive. The journey begins with the much-anticipated Flight 5.
Before Flight 4, the FAA issued several updates hinting at a quicker succession of flights due to streamlined investigation procedures. This raised the burning question: when will Flight 5 take off?
Originally, I predicted a mid-August launch. However, a recent revelation from Elon Musk during a gaming stream, leaked on X, has surpassed all expectations. In his own words, “Hopefully, next Starship launch is probably in about a month.”

Exciting times lie ahead! SpaceX aims to conduct Flight 5 in July, most likely in the middle to late part of the month. It’s truly astonishing! Although Elon Musk has not yet specified an exact date, feel free to share your predictions in the comments section.
Clearly, the launch frequency for Starship is accelerating at an incredible pace. We waited 7 months between Flight 1 and Flight 2, but that turnaround time was reduced to just 4 months between Flight 2 and Flight 3. After Flight 3, we waited less than 3 months to witness Flight 4. And now, SpaceX wants to shorten this even further to approximately a month.
No other rocket has developed as rapidly as Starship. Consider the Falcon 9 from over a decade ago; it took nearly three years for SpaceX to complete its first five flights. In stark contrast, Starship has achieved this milestone in just over a year. When we look at SpaceX’s competitors, like SLS or Vulcan, these rockets required decades of development to launch their first flight.
