Elon Musk Claims Tesla Insane production plan for new factory 2,000,000 electric cars!
In Canada, there are no federal or provincial laws prohibiting manufacturers from selling direct to consumers. However, unfortunately for those EV-interested drivers in Ontario, the government under Doug Ford scrapped its provincial electric vehicle rebate program in 2018. Ontario is currently in an election year and various political parties are promising to reinstate the electric rebate program, including EV subsidies of up to $10,000. Quebec is a little more generous with its new vehicle rebate system. Keep in mind that Quebec’s rebate system is changing in July 2022. The max rebate for all-electric vehicles will drop to $7,000, while plug-ins will get a max rebate of $5,000.
Moreover, under the Inflation Reduction Act, 40% of materials used in batteries should be sourced from North America or a U.S. trading partner by 2024. By 2029, 100% of materials used in batteries should come from North America or U.S trading partners. Otherwise, the vehicles will not qualify for EV tax credits. That is the reason why Volkswagen and Mercedes signed deals with Canada a week after President Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act, and it doesn’t seem to be a coincidence. The EV tax credits are a big step towards helping Tesla sales grow and towards its future goals.
Let’s talk about the price of Tesla electric cars when building the next Giga factory in Canada.
First, nickel prices are at an all-time high due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Tesla would likely be unaffected by the rise in nickel prices because they would have signed long-term contracts with Vale.
Second, lithium-ion batteries are dangerous to transport over long distances, Gigafactory in Canada is Elon Musk’s strategy to reduce shipping costs. Moreover, Canada has a great transnational rail system that can move large amounts of lithium and nickel around. So, we can see Tesla will save from at least 2 avenues of strategic placement of their 5th Gigafactory.
For example, a new Tesla Model 3 in Canada, we have to pay $46,389 for the base Standard Range Plus model with a limited 151 km range.
By setting up a factory in Canada with all the available advantages, minus the shipping fee, the price of the Tesla car will have a chance to reduce by about 15%. So maybe you only need to pay $39,432 for the Tesla Model 3. This makes it possible for everyone to own a Tesla when the price has continuously increased before.
