Elon Musk said last Wednesday that SpaceX is continuing to test rocket boosters at its Starbase compound in Boca Chica as it works toward having its Starship on the pad there for its first orbital launch attempt as soon as next month.
But he’s also planning to start shipping Starship rockets to Florida from South Texas next spring.
“Probably Q2 next year, with vehicles initially transferred by boat from Port of Brownsville to the Cape,” Musk said Wednesday in response to inquiries via Twitter about launch timelines and locations.
SpaceX itself is also developing LC-39A, the only site in the country that is currently able to launch people into orbit, for Starship launches in the near future.
As mentioned previously, the final module of the Starship orbital launch tower was stacked last week.
However, there’s more work to do after that!
As you can see, there are still several parts of the tower visible in this area.
Here, on the ground, is where the cable chain is set up to contain all of the hydraulic, electrical, and communication connections between the tower and the chopsticks.
Two lifting cable sheaves may also be seen nearby.
Oh, what is this down here though?
Well, it looks like the Drawworks hoist system is to be installed as the driving force that will drive the wire rope and control the arms’ vertical movement.
Next, let’s shift the attention to the West, the Chopstick assembly area.
Look! There are the 4 gas springs and pistons for the catching beams awaiting installation on the ground near the white truck!
You also can see the carriage, which has had parts of the hydraulic systems installed in recent weeks next to the chopstick.
Once the carriage was in the right position, workers were able to wrap its upper arms around the tower and began connecting the carriage to those skates with several more large pins.
