And 2022 is a breakthrough year in the development of Elon Musk’s space company.
It absolutely marks SpaceX’s 20th anniversary with countless remarkable milestones!
There have never been more rockets launched into orbit than this year! We can almost see them every week, sometimes even a few times a week!
Indeed, what Musk’s SpaceX just did in 2022 is INCREDIBLE and SHOCKED the entire industry!
Let’s find out all of this in today’s episode of Alpha Tech:
Firstly, SpaceX has had many incredible developments for Starship this year.
The company has been busy preparing for the first Starship orbital flight. To do that, the teams make a lot of tests.
Impressively, a SpaceX Starship booster has successfully fired up 14 of its 33 Raptor engines.
Honestly, while the pace of testing and progress was in many ways more aggressive from 2019 to mid-2021, it still can’t be said that SpaceX has been slacking off in 2022. Booster 7 alone completed more than 25 distinct tests (including six static fires) between early April and late December.
Ship 24 also completely ignited all six of its Raptors, ready for fly.
All the results obtained would be an important source of data for a Starship flight.
At the same time, we can clearly see that SpaceX has upgraded a lot of Starships this year.
The number of raptors on Starship increased significantly. Those updates came hand in hand with significant changes to the design and operation of both Starship and its Super Heavy booster, which at one point was expected to utilize a “Boost” variant of Raptor that would trade thrust vector control (TVC; i.e. gimballing) and a wide throttle range for far greater thrust.
The size of Starship also changed bigger.
