Wireless charging has the potential to eliminate many of the problems that are now associated with charging electric vehicles. However, in order for it to even have a chance of success, automobile manufacturers will need to get it into mass production.
The recent investment that Tesla made in wireless charging for electric vehicles is a significant vote of confidence for this rapidly developing technology that has the potential to revolutionize the transport industry.
According to a claim that was published on July 31 in the German-language publication Teslamag and recirculated among the blogosphere of Tesla enthusiasts, the pioneering electric automobile manufacturer recently acquired the German startup Wiferion. The amount that Tesla paid for the company has not been disclosed officially; nevertheless, the cash flow statement for the second quarter of the year reveals that $76 million was spent on “business combinations.”
What exactly does Tesla intend to do with its acquisition is the question that needs to be answered right now. In addition, considering the enormous impact that Tesla has had on the electrification of vehicles, the development of charging infrastructure, and the design of plugs, will this action stimulate a wider industry interest in wireless charging?
Wireless charging presents a striking and futuristic concept: all you need to do to power your vehicle is park in the appropriate area, and electricity will beam into your battery via magnetic resonance.
