Elon Musk Just LEAKED The Next-Gen LFP Battery!
According to Tesla, it intends to employ less expensive, iron-based batteries in an updated version of its Semi big electric trucks and a low-cost electric automobile.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has defended the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology that is heavily favoured by Chinese manufacturers, declaring in March that “the vast majority of the heavy lifting for electrification will be iron-based cells.”
However current battery technology have issues with extreme temperatures. If utilized in extreme temperatures (below freezing or hot heat), the performance of the battery may start to decline. As new and improved technologies transform the field of electric mobility, billions of dollars invested in the development of batteries for electric automobiles are finally showing astonishing results. The automotive industry is at a turning point in its development because of this enormous upheaval, which holds out the prospect of more readily available and reasonably priced electric vehicles (EVs) that could solve drivers’ top concerns.
The efficiency of batteries in electric vehicles has slowly improved over the years, but costs have risen because of high-cost raw materials. In contrast, Tesla’s most potent battery can add 275 kilometres to the available range in just 15 minutes at its supercharging locations.
The usage of an LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery version by CATL is what makes its fast-charging capabilities novel. Due to their cheaper price and less reliance on rare earth metals, LFP batteries, which were initially overshadowed by their NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) cousins, have gained popularity recently. Although LFP batteries had previously been plagued by slower charging rates and heavier weights, CATL appears to have addressed these issues, bringing the technology to the forefront.
With a market share of 37%, double that of its nearest rival BYD, CATL is the largest battery maker in the world, supporting its lofty claims. The industry’s support of cutting-edge battery solutions can be seen in the fact that major automakers like Tesla, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and Hyundai have joined CATL as regular partners.
