In the 20 years since Space Exploration Technologies Corp. was established, the once-brave space startup that was struggling to launch its first rocket has developed into an aerospace behemoth and one of the most valuable private companies in the world. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the company’s founding.
By year’s end, SpaceX will have launched twice as many rockets as it did in 2021, which set the previous annual record. The Hawthorne-based corporation also made big advancements on fresh projects including its Starlink global broadband network and its enormous Starship spacecraft, which it plans to put into orbit for the first time later this year.

Space Exploration Technologies was established in 2002 by Elon Musk and creates, produces, and launches vehicles, rocket engines, spacecraft, and communications satellites. The company’s mission is to make space travel commercially viable so that the Moon and Mars can be explored and colonized.
For commercial customers as well as NASA and other governmental organizations, SpaceX launches rockets and spacecraft into orbit. In order to reduce operational costs, SpaceX is leading the way in the utilization of reusable booster rockets. The business organizes commercial space tourism missions in addition to operating shuttle flights for NASA to and from the International Space Station.
More than 40 countries now have access to the Internet thanks to Starlink, a company owned by SpaceX that has launched hundreds of its satellites into orbit since January 2020. Since the Russian invasion in February 2022, Starlink has allowed Ukraine to continue to have access to the Internet. 400,000 Starlink customers as of June, up from 250,000 as of March, according to SpaceX.
Elon Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies, or SpaceX, is offering to sell insider shares in a tender worth $140 billion.
According to the most recent Bloomberg report, the offer values the shares at $77 each, a significant increase from SpaceX’s current valuation of $127 billion in July.
According to previous Reuters reporting, discussions had reached up to $85 per share, indicating that the company’s value has dropped from $150 billion. SpaceX has not disclosed how much money it plans to raise through the offering.
SpaceX’s valuation places it among the most valuable private companies in the United States.
According to Crunchbase data as of 14 December, SpaceX has received more than $9.8 billion in funding from 32 rounds. The most recent was a $250 million private equity round in July 2022 with three investors.
According to SpaceX valuation history, the company’s value surpassed $1 billion in 2010. It has since risen from around $33.3 billion in May 2019 to $46 billion in August 2020, $100 billion in late October 2021, and $127 billion in July 2022. In three years, SpaceX’s market value has quadrupled. It is one of the few companies whose value has increased in 2022.
