There is no doubt that Tesla’s CYBERTRUCK is the most attention-getting vehicle the company makes but you shouldn’t expect to see it any time soon. It seems like Tesla is no closer to shipping the truck than it was for its unveiling at the Tesla Design Studio in November 2019, more than two years after it was revealed. Before the reveal, CEO Elon Musk described the design as”heart-stopping” and described it as something that looked out of BladeRunner.
There is no doubt that the oft-delayed truck serves a purpose, drawing attention to the rest of Tesla’s lineup. And boy, is it a looker. With its angular appearance and supposedly bulletproof windows, the Cybertruck certainly lives up to its name.
But while the Cybertruck is still in development, other electric trucks are finally being sold. Rivian’s fantastic R1T was reviewed last fall, and Ford’s conventional-looking Lightning is only a few months away from first deliveries. There’s even the ridiculous GMC Hummer EV pickup, which may be the most bonkers electric vehicle yet.But what about the Cybertruck?Well, previously, in January 2022, Tesla removed all references to the truck’s release date being in 2022 from its website, saying that the production for the truck is being delayed until 2023. Now, Elon Musk himself has confirmed that report, saying at an event for the opening of the Gigafactory Berlin that Tesla aims “to complete the Cybertruck development this year and be ready for production by next year.”
