Have you witnessed a vehicle engaged in field operations prior to the launch of its official delivery events? It is unlikely. However, this statement does not hold true for Tesla’s Cybertruck.
Yesterday morning, a prototype of the Tesla Cybertruck successfully arrived at the SpaceX Starbase launch site located in Boca Chica, Texas. Initially, a report was made of the arrival of conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) sport utility vehicles (SUVs) to Starbase. After that, these vehicles were seen engaging in the act of pulling the Raptor engines of the Starship.
Tesla drove the Cybertruck to Starbase with the intention of evaluating its hauling capabilities in practical situations or potentially leveraging the cost-effective publicity generated by continuous monitoring through local observer cameras at the SpaceX launch complex in Texas. According to many, Tesla has effectively achieved a favorable outcome by making this strategic decision.
The initial detection of the Cybertruck’s arrival at Starbase was made by LabPadre, an observer of the starbase. The above video depicts the Cybertruck’s entrance into Starbase, specifically its trajectory towards the Raptor engine production vicinity, while briefly traversing the Straship Orbital Launch Mount (OLM).
In a separate video, it was observed that the Cybertruck was engaged in the transportation of a Raptor engine. SpaceX promptly started operational utilization of the just-arrived Cybertruck, thereby refraining from treating it as a mere visitor. The vacuum-level engine, commonly referred to as RVac, was exclusively installed on the Starship Raptor. The primary function of RVac engines is to generate propulsive force for the Starship spacecraft while operating in a vacuum environment.
The weight of a Raptor 2 engine is 3,527 pounds (1,600 kg). Based on the available information, it may be inferred that the combined weight of the trailer and Raptor engine is estimated to be approximately 5,000 pounds. The Cybertruck effortlessly demonstrated its ability to tow the specified load, as evidenced by the visual evidence presented in the accompanying video.
Based on the official specifications provided by Tesla, the Cybertruck has a towing capacity exceeding 14,000 pounds (equivalent to 6,350 kg). Transporting a trailer weighing 5,000 pounds is effortlessly accomplished by the powerful capabilities of the Cybertruck.
The videos produced by Starbase function as a complimentary promotional strategy for Tesla, while also providing potential buyers of the Cybertruck with a preview of the vehicle’s towing capabilities.
