Little by little, SpaceX is getting closer to conducting the maiden orbital flight with its Starship and Super Heavy prototype!
Elon Musk’s space company has already conducted a number of static fire tests in 2022 to get Starship ready for the approximately 90-minute mission.
It is unclear when exactly Starship might make its first attempt to reach orbit, but when it finally happens, this launch won’t be a dull affair, that’s for sure.
If successful, we would see the spacecraft splash down off the coast of Hawaii and the Super Heavy booster “return to Starbase and be caught by the launch tower.”
Catching a rocket!
That might be the most epic game of catch ever conceived!
And of course, it’s not easy to do!
“There’s a lot of ways for this to fail. How quickly… Is it gonna close almost at the last second, like, or will it be mostly closed and there’s a small tolerance there and it skirts the whole thing by, you know…”
