SpaceX’s Starship is almost ready for its first orbital flight, and many are wondering what its purpose is. Well, it’s quite simple really. Starship is designed for building and sustaining human colonies in space. While it can certainly contribute to projects like Artemis and The Martian, its potential goes far beyond that. People in the space community are already envisioning how Starship can be used for serious logistics. They’re imagining missions to the moon, upgrades to the space station, and much more. However, we need to think even bigger if we’re going to fully utilize Starship’s potential. In the next decade, we can expect dozens of Starship flights to be sold, but we need to make sure that it’s being used as much as possible to keep costs down. The biggest hurdle right now is engine manufacturing, but SpaceX is making progress and should overcome this challenge well before commercial flights begin. SpaceX is making groundbreaking progress with their latest prototype Starship, known as s26. This particular Starship boasts several major design changes, setting it apart from all its predecessors. Perhaps the most noticeable difference is the cone-tip nose section, which gives the craft a distinct look.
