An extremely new discovery might make everyone here postpone their plans to own a Model Y for a while, especially for the base variant which has the latest design changes and is believed to be the beginning of the Model Y Juniper Project. That is also a breakthrough to the performance as we can see quite a big change as it has dropped from 6.9 seconds to 5.9 seconds for the 0 to 62 miles acceleration. The project to refresh the Model 3 or Model 3 Highland has been completed and was launched not long ago, bringing customers a series of designs in terms of overall performance but that is not enough to meet expectations. Our wait is for a more practical one for family trips, the Model Y.
So what is the big change in Model Y efficiency?
Recently, Tesla did a bit of a surprise update to the model y so what Tesla did in China was to bring a slight change to the range and acceleration of the Model Y.
We call this a minor change because we can find very little that has changed. However, it makes quite a difference when it comes to 0-60 mile acceleration.
In the previous version of the standard variant, the time to 60 miles was 6.9 seconds according to estimates in China. The updated version has reduced the time to 5.9 seconds, 1 second being the amount of time that has shown to be a huge difference.
In the case of the rear-wheel drive Model Y, the estimated range is 344 miles (554 km), an increase of 5 miles (9 km), almost 1.7% more than the previous model.
For the dual-motor all-wheel drive long-range version, the estimated range has increased from 410 miles to 428 miles, an increase of 18 miles over the previous version.
Since we don’t see that the Model Y has too many changes to the exterior design to increase aerodynamics, we can consider that Tesla seems to have had a bit of an impact on the Model Y’s battery cell, with The supply is extremely abundant in the Chinese market especially from manufacturer CATL, which could be just a slight change in the battery’s structure or improvements in their software. But nonetheless, this also shows a breakthrough in Tesla’s production process in terms of increasing operating range, which are difficulties that other electric vehicle manufacturers are considering to optimize.
It is a fact that to achieve a time to 60 mph that is up to 1 second shorter, the power that the Model Y standard range must add is about 60-100 horsepower in the rear-wheel drive.
