Notably, in response to an update about the EVA suit test, famous NASA astronaut Chris Hadfield tweeted: “Have a great spaceflight, Jared! Break new ground, open doors, return safely, re-inspired.”
This spacewalk mission, involving four astronauts led by Jared Isaacman, will take place at an altitude of 500 kilometers above Earth, where they will conduct extravehicular activity (EVA). This will be the highest altitude at which any crewed spacecraft has ever operated. The team will be in orbit for five days, conducting research to better understand the effects of spaceflight and space radiation on human health.

In a recent update on the Polaris Dawn website, they stated that Polaris Dawn’s spacewalk will mark both the first-ever commercial spacewalk and the first time that four astronauts will concurrently be exposed to the vacuum of space. During the approximately two-hour-long operation, Mission Commander Jared Isaacman and Mission Specialist Sarah Gillis will separately exit the Dragon spacecraft through its forward hatch. Meanwhile, Mission Pilot Kidd Poteet and Mission Specialist & Medical Officer Anna Menon will remain seated, managing spacesuit umbilicals and monitoring telemetry on Dragon’s interior displays.
